Plentycast - January 2013

Hello listeners and welcome back to our irregularly scheduled podcasts...

However, we intend to be a bit more regular from now on. The eagle-eyed among you will have noticed that the title of this post includes a month therefore you correctly can deduce that we will be going into a monthly cycle with the podcasts from here forward in an attempt to do what we failed to do last year and record more than a token few.

Anyway, I'd love to say that there's a lot of exciting new things about the podcasts in 2013 but alas that isn't the case. Playing songs and talking pish, there you go...

Without further ado then. See you in February! Honest...

Plentycast #36

Hello listeners, we're back back back... or something...

I'm sure you missed us during our (unscheduled) five-month hiatus, a hiatus caused by... I don't know what caused it really, there were perhaps a few reasons that we may not go into here.

Anyway, nothing really has changed. Me and John pick some songs then we talk about them, and possibly go on unrelated tangents. It's right where we left off really, but I've bought some records in the interim period and tracks from a few of those appear on this particular programme. Buying records is a good thing, I heartily recommend it, including the ones you're about to listen to.

About which... on you go!

Plentycast #35 - The Lo-Fi Bri Cast

And so my birthday weekend starts in earnest with another of our guest casts. Joining us at PS Towers is our pal Brian McKinnon from Glasgow who did a grand job in picking the songs for your enjoyment. We've been trying to limit recent casts to 90 minutes or so but we made an exception for Brian - I hope you can find 127 minutes to listen to some fine, fine tunes.

You'll see we sprung a surprise on John and added a Sawyer song to the mix. I always thought Brian had heard them but it turns out he hadn't! It's only a minute and a half long but what a minute and a half it is. I think we may do another cast with Brian again, probably this time through in Glasgow so what you are about to listen to is the "home leg". I fear we may need to up our game as Brian may have nicked an away goal to take into the second leg. We'll let you know when that takes place, soon hopefully!

Well, on you go...

Plentycast #34

I don't know if the unseasonably good weather is getting to us or not but there was a nice bit of forgetfulness halfway through the latest podcast. Maybe our minds will return once the weather cools down a bit (which looks like it could be as soon as this coming weekend...)

Anyway, unlike us I know, but I digress. We spend the first couple of minutes of the show talking about the man you see on every Mixcloud embed, namely the great Jocky Wilson and what he meant to us growing up in Fife in the 1980s. It's a trite thing to say that this one's for you but I guess it is in this case.

We plough a usual furrow of old and new tracks and I think I may have got the nationality wrong of New Bleeders so apologies for that if it is the case. However, it's a cracking good tune so I hope I'm forgiven. It's a podcast full of cracking tunes so we hope you enjoy.

Do it for Jocky and click on the great man...

Plentycast #33 - The Jeff Mangum ATP Cast

Hello listeners, we're back after a couple of months of inactivity (slackness in the blackness!) and what a splendid show we have for our return.

Over the weekend, John and me were down at the Jeff Mangum curated ATP with a host of others and we decided to record a podcast while we were there. This was recorded yesterday lunchtime in the vast Skyline Pavilion space in Butlins in Minehead - there were no bands playing in there over the weekend so it became this huge hang-out place instead. It seemed like a nice place to do it so away we went.

We're joined by a plethora of special guests popping in and out of proceedings - you'll remember Thom Allott and Andy Cleary from the Fence Cast last year. Also joining us is Jonathan Greer from Slow Thrills zine, Will Fitzpatrick from The 255s who we played last year and last, but not least, our pal and chalet mate Lo-Fi Brian McKinnon.

Everybody picked a couple of songs by bands from the weekend, I put them in roughly date order as to when they played and since it was recorded on the Sunday we could only look forward to the bands playing that day. I can since confirm that Versus and Sebadoh were fucking awesome and John would say the same thing about the former and also Roscoe Mitchell too. Looking back the day after the weekend before, I can honestly say that I enjoyed this weekend very much even though at the time of writing I'm dead tired.

Anyway, I hope we are able to give you a flavour of what went on. Featuring some ATP hubbub in the background (or it could be a knitting machine...) and the interminable clack and clink of the air hockey machines. Enjoy!
